Being
an Episcopalian
Only two out of every ten Episcopalians are cradle Episcopalians
born that way. That means that eight of every ten Episcopalians
have chosen the Episcopal Church. These are some of the reasons
why:
- Worship
that brings you in, instead of putting you on the sidelines.
- A
theology that demands our intelligence rather than ignoring
it.
- A
willingness not only to tolerate but celebrate differences.
- A
heritage that takes the Bible very seriously but is not bound
by literalism.
- A
strong sense of community in which our consensus is Christ,
not a conformity of opinion.
- A
devotion to the Biblical Sacraments instituted by Jesus which
evoke awe and mystery instead of factual explanation.
- A
sense of ministry that is rightfully the obligation and privilege
of every baptized person.
- An
insistence upon morality [what is good and loving] and an
avoidance of moralism [salvation by code an not by Christ].
- The
heritage of Apostolic faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ
and in the Apostolic order given to the Church by Him.We
invite you to come worship with us, learn about the Episcopal Church,
and consider becoming an Episcopalian Christian!
The Mission of the Episcopal Church
The mission of the Episcopal Church is not simply a matter of "saving
souls." Neither is it simply a matter of "feeding the
hungry." Christian mission is seen as involving both the spiritual
and the physical well-being of humankind, for Christ's love must
extend to all of life. The mission of the Church is to restore all
people to unity with God and each other in Christ.
